Egypt: Sudan’s Gateway to Global Mining Markets

As part of efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Sudan, Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, received Mr. Nour Al-Daem Taha, Sudanese Minister of Minerals, accompanied by Ambassador Omar Al-Farouq, Deputy Sudanese Ambassador in Cairo, along with a delegation that included several representatives of Sudanese companies and institutions operating in the mining sector.

The meeting was also attended by Geologist Yasser Ramadan, Chairman of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority and Mining Industries.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in the mining sector and value-added industries.

The Egyptian Minister stressed that there are broad prospects for joint collaboration, pointing to the immense natural resources that can be harnessed for the mutual benefit of both countries.

He further explained the potential for expanding cooperation in mining industries to maximize the added value of Sudanese raw materials and channel them to global markets.

The Minister also noted that Egypt’s petroleum and mining sector is currently working on establishing specialized schools in mining, alongside conducting in-depth research and studies to support the development of the industry.

These efforts aim to prepare new cadres and strengthen the knowledge base of the sector.

For his part, the Sudanese Minister of Minerals expressed his country’s desire to deepen strategic cooperation with Egypt, stressing that Cairo can serve as the main gateway for Sudanese minerals to access global markets.

He added that integration between the two countries would grant them a distinguished position on the international stage, while highlighting Sudan’s eagerness to benefit from Egypt’s expertise and advanced technologies in the mining field.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish joint working groups from both sides to exchange expertise and explore cooperation opportunities in the near future. This includes training programs, technology exchange, and setting a practical mechanism and timeline for effective collaboration, in a way that serves the interests of both nations and the companies active in this strategic sector.

Ultimately, this meeting lays the foundation for a new phase of Egyptian-Sudanese integration in the mining industry, built on harnessing shared resources and creating added economic value for the benefit of both peoples.
