These talks focused on enhancing cooperation between Egypt and Canada in the mining sector, an area in which Canada holds a prominent global position

Both sides discussed ways to further develop this collaboration, particularly in light of the notable activities of Canadian companies operating in the mining sector in Egypt

Among these companies is Barrick Gold, the second-largest gold mining company in the world, which operates in 19 sectors across Egypt’s Eastern Desert

In addition, the talks covered the activities of other companies such as Aton Resources, Lotus Gold, and Red Sea Resources, all of which play a significant role in strengthening Egypt’s mining sector

Minister Karim Badawi emphasized the importance of joint cooperation with Canada, highlighting the ongoing negotiations with Barrick Gold to finalize a contract model for gold exploitation in Egypt

He also pointed out that the Egyptian government is making significant efforts to attract more major global companies to invest in the Egyptian market

The minister noted that Egypt is looking forward to the participation of these companies in the upcoming bids, which will soon be launched to explore for gold and associated minerals

Furthermore, the discussions touched on the vast potential of Egypt’s mining sector, supported by the country’s robust infrastructure, which facilitates the optimal utilization of its mineral resources

The minister highlighted that Egypt is currently working on implementing a new regulatory framework aimed at creating an attractive investment climate, a step further supported by the launch of the Egypt Mining Portal

This digital investment platform is designed to provide easier access to investment opportunities in the mining sector

The portal is expected to be officially launched by the end of the year, serving as a key driver for mining investments in Egypt
