Egypt’s Gold Attracts Investors through the Open Blocks System

Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, held an expanded meeting with senior officials from the Ministry and the Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, chaired by Geologist Yasser Ramadan, Chairman of the Authority, to review the status of applications submitted by companies seeking opportunities to explore for gold, minerals and mining ores under the recently launched Open Blocks system.
Egypt’s Gold Attracts Investors
The meeting reviewed the volume of applications received and the level of interest shown by Egyptian and international mining companies in the available opportunities, in light of the ongoing modernization of Egypt’s mining sector.
These updates include legislative, institutional and procedural reforms aimed at creating a more attractive investment climate, enhancing the sector’s competitiveness and encouraging further capital inflows.
Minister Karim Badawi stated that the initial indicators reflect growing interest from mining companies, confirming the increasing confidence in the Egyptian market and the success of the State’s efforts to reshape the mining investment framework according to a modern vision based on clarity, streamlined procedures and maximizing the value of mineral resources.
The Minister praised the Open Blocks mechanism as an important step in developing the way mining opportunities are offered to investors.
He noted that the system provides companies with greater flexibility in selecting areas and submitting applications, while ensuring the swift review, evaluation and award of blocks under clear rules that guarantee equal opportunities and support transparency.
Badawi stressed the importance of continuing to offer attractive investment opportunities in line with international best practices, while providing the necessary geological data and simplifying application procedures.
He said these measures would help attract major mining companies, expand exploration activities and turn Egypt’s mineral wealth into added value that supports the national economy.
The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources added that implementing the Open Blocks system represents a key pillar of the strategy to develop Egypt’s mining sector.
The system allows companies to apply throughout the year and opens the door to wider exploration activity in promising areas, strengthening Egypt’s position on the regional and international mining map.
Through this mechanism, the Ministry aims to build a modern mining industry capable of attracting further investments, increasing the sector’s contribution to GDP, creating new job opportunities and maximizing the benefit from Egypt’s diverse mineral resources.
The Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority announced last month the opening of applications for exploration areas under the Open Blocks system, covering gold and associated minerals, phosphate, talc and kaolin, as part of the Ministry’s plan to implement a modern and sustainable investment framework aligned with international standards.
