Oil Minister and Hoda Mansour Discuss the Future of Egypt’s Mining Sector in London

Engineer Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, led the Egyptian-British mining business mission during its visit to London, accompanied by Geologist Yasser Ramadan, Chairman of the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority and the Mining Industries Authority.

Hoda Mansour Leads Key London Dialogue

The visit began with a panel discussion titled Untapped Mining Opportunities and New Commercial Discoveries.

The session was moderated by Engineer Hoda Mansour, Managing Director and Vice Chairperson of Sukari Gold Mines on behalf of AngloGold Ashanti.

The panel gathered representatives from nearly 30 mining companies, European banks, and financial and consulting institutions.

In his opening remarks, the minister emphasized that Egypt is open to all forms of partnership with investors.

He stated that the country aims to maximize the value of its mineral wealth and enhance the mining sector’s contribution to the national economy.

He added that the latest reform package seeks to build a modern, competitive mining industry capable of attracting global investment.

Badawi explained that the reforms included legislative and structural measures, most notably transforming the Mineral Resources Authority into an economic body. This, he noted, will improve efficiency and streamline licensing and approval procedures. He also stressed that Egypt has adopted more competitive investment systems in the gold sector, aligned with international best practices.

The minister highlighted the new financial and fiscal incentives designed to attract investment. He noted that these incentives are part of a broader reform framework shaped through dialogue with investors and the study of global models.

He added that Egypt has launched its first airborne geophysical survey in forty years to map mineral potential, particularly critical and rare minerals increasingly needed for renewable energy industries.

Badawi also reviewed the package of incentives dedicated to mineral exploration and expansion efforts.

He affirmed that Egypt welcomes strategic partnerships with both local and international companies to develop industries that create greater value-added from mineral resources.

He concluded by underscoring that the latest reforms are anchored in strong national capabilities.

These include Egypt’s rich geological landscape and the modern infrastructure developed over the past decade—roads, ports, airports, and logistics services—that provide flexibility for mining operations and access to diverse energy sources.
