By Sayed El-Abnody

Egypt’s Genesis Mining is moving forward with an expansion plan that combines operational expertise with industrial ambition, based on a vision that places added value at the heart of investment, linking exploration and extraction to processing, manufacturing, logistics, marketing, and export.

EGYPT, A LAND OF MINING OPPORTUNITY

This vision comes at a time when Egypt’s mining sector is undergoing accelerating regulatory and investment transformation, as the state moves toward establishing downstream industries that make use of local ores, support exports, and provide strategic products for the Egyptian market.

A $930 MILLION INDUSTRIAL PROJECT

The company’s latest moves reflect the scale of this ambition, following the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority to establish an integrated mining and industrial phosphate project in the New Valley, under an initial investment vision valued at up to $930 million, implemented in phases.

According to preliminary studies, the project aims to build a system that begins with exploration and resource evaluation, moves through mining and beneficiation, and extends to phosphoric acid, fertilizers, and phosphate products, supported by an expanded geological program to sustain supply for the industrial complex.

AN INTEGRATED PRODUCTION CHAIN

Hassan El-Imam, Chairman of Genesis Egyptian Mining Company, said the company views mining as an integrated value chain that begins with geological studies and exploration, proceeds through mining and operations, and reaches processing, manufacturing, marketing, and export — explaining that the main goal is to maximize the economic value of Egypt’s mineral wealth within the country, and to turn raw ore into products capable of serving industry and competing in regional and international markets.

El-Imam added, in remarks to Al-Dustour, that Genesis is building its model on investment in knowledge, personnel, technology, and long-term partnerships, aiming to establish an integrated mining platform that brings together technical, operational, and financial capabilities within an Egyptian entity with a regional vision.

He affirmed that measured expansion is the basis of growth, with resources directed toward projects that generate sustained economic returns, create jobs, and support mining-related industries.

This role is supported by Masar for Contracting, a sister company that began operations in 2014. Masar has led numerous national projects and contracting works, and today serves as the executive and operational arm of Genesis across its current and future projects.

This affiliation gives Genesis an operational base and field experience in managing equipment, sites, and projects, with company activity focused on delivering integrated solutions spanning exploration, extraction, and primary ore processing.

ADDED VALUE INSIDE EGYPT

The Chairman noted that the real value of mineral wealth multiplies after extraction, once the stages of quality improvement, sorting, grinding, concentration, and manufacturing begin — stages that raise the return per ton, expand the customer base, and open new export pathways.

Building on this, the company is developing projects that extend from production to processing, then progress toward mining industries of greater economic value.

He said the phosphate sector offers a clear model of this direction, as the ore serves as an entry point to a broad industrial chain linked to agriculture, fertilizer manufacturing, phosphoric acid, and a range of chemical products.

He pointed out that developing this sector carries both an economic and a strategic dimension, since it links mining to food security and supports Egypt’s ability to meet part of the local market’s needs, alongside building export capacity able to reach diverse markets.

20 MILLION TONS OF PHOSPHATE ANNUALLY

El-Imam confirmed that the New Valley project reflects the transformation Genesis is targeting, with long-term goals that include sustainable mining operations at a capacity of up to 20 million tons of phosphate ore annually, and the establishment of units to process and upgrade the ore to a concentration output of up to 4 million tons of concentrates annually.

AN INTEGRATED COMPLEX IN THE NEW VALLEY

The company is also studying the establishment of an industrial complex with a capacity of up to 500,000 tons annually of phosphoric acid, and around 500,000 tons annually of fertilizers and phosphate products.

He added that the project’s proposed exploration and geological program includes drilling 2.5 million linear meters, aimed at building an accurate database, updating resource and reserve estimates, and securing the quantities needed to sustain operation of the industrial complex.

He explained that this stage represents the cornerstone of any major investment, since the quality of geological data determines the optimal mine design, production plans, processing technologies, and the scale of the industrial investment linked to the project.

A LARGE EQUIPMENT FLEET

He noted that the company will draw on its operational capabilities and equipment fleet to finance the project’s phases, working alongside specialized expert firms and technology partners, with geological studies, ore-processing trials, and evaluation of industrial alternatives already under way in coordination with the Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority.

He described the speed of moving from investment intent to a signed memorandum of understanding and a defined work program as evidence of an improving investment environment capable of absorbing major projects.

PRODUCTS SERVING DIVERSE INDUSTRIES

El-Imam revealed that Genesis operates an existing production base that includes a basalt quarry in the Galala area with a monthly capacity of 500,000 tons — the quarry approved to supply basalt for the high-speed electric rail project, having already delivered 5 million cubic meters in its first phase — along with phosphate mines at El-Sebaeya with a capacity of 60,000 tons monthly at a concentration of between 26% and 30% phosphorus pentoxide.

These operations provide practical experience in managing supply chains covering production, equipment, labor, transport, and quality, while ensuring all operations align with the company’s health and safety policy and vision.

This diversification gives the company the ability to serve multiple industrial sectors and reduces dependence on any single product or market.

EGYPT’S LOCATION MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

The Chairman said Genesis focuses on ores that combine three key factors: growing global demand, the potential to build value-added industries, and a competitive advantage for Egypt in terms of resources, geographic location, or infrastructure — which is why phosphate, gold, silica sand, and industrial ores rank among the leading pillars of growth in the years ahead.

He added that the recent period has seen expansion in mining projects, particularly phosphate and other industrial ores, alongside preparations to enter the gold sector in force, built on geological and technical teams capable of studying and evaluating opportunities to international standards.

He affirmed that the company’s goal extends beyond increasing production, toward establishing stable, sustainable operations grounded in safety, quality, operational efficiency, and precise cost management.

GOLD ON THE EXPANSION MAP

According to its company profile, Genesis is conducting exploration studies for gold, manganese, lead, and titanium, alongside a preliminary study of copper, in cooperation with international exploration firms and national research institutions.

El-Imam believes that broadening the mineral base strengthens the company’s flexibility and gives it opportunities to benefit from global shifts in supply chains and advanced industries.

PARTNERSHIPS THAT ACCELERATE DELIVERY

He affirmed that mineral processing represents the natural next stage in the company’s development, through building value chains in partnership with the public and private sectors and with local and international investors, so that mineral resources are converted into high-value industrial products.

He explained that these partnerships shorten execution timelines, pool financing, expertise, and technology, and distribute risk in a way that supports project sustainability.

Genesis maintains partnerships with international companies, the Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, a number of national companies, and academic and research institutions.

INVESTMENTS APPROACHING $1 BILLION

El-Imam explained that the company began with initial capital of $300 million and is targeting investments exceeding $1 billion in the coming years, in line with its announced plan.

The integrated phosphate project stands as one of the largest pillars of the proposed expansion, with delivery of its targets tied to the outcome of technical, geological, and economic studies, as well as final agreements.

1,800 ENGINEERS, TECHNICIANS, AND WORKERS

He added that Genesis will employ more than 1,800 engineers, technicians, and workers, alongside a specialized team of geologists and chemists, supported by ongoing training programs to keep pace with technology and market practice.

He affirmed that real wealth lies in people capable of turning data, equipment, and ore into safe production and an industrial product built on quality and trust.

PEOPLE ARE THE FOUNDATION OF THE MINING INDUSTRY

He noted that the company is building an institutional culture grounded in efficiency, discipline, safety, and innovation, drawing on international expertise, transferring knowledge, and preparing a new generation of engineers and technicians. He believes that investing in people raises productivity, reduces losses, and strengthens the company’s ability to manage larger and more complex projects in the period ahead.

LABORATORIES TO GLOBAL STANDARDS

Genesis’s plan includes establishing laboratories accredited both locally and internationally, equipped with modern technology for ore analysis and evaluation.

El-Imam said accredited laboratories are a core element of modern mining, since they raise investor confidence, support accurate evaluation, and facilitate financing, marketing, and export, while giving operating teams fast data to support quality control and decision-making.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE INSIDE THE MINES

He added that digital transformation forms a parallel track to production expansion, through systems for managing equipment, inventory, fuel, maintenance, and production, and by linking geological data with laboratory results and mine plans.

He confirmed that using artificial intelligence to analyze data, predict equipment failures, optimize operating routes, and monitor safety indicators will become a core part of mining companies’ competitiveness.

SUSTAINABILITY STARTS AT THE DESIGN STAGE

The Chairman stressed that environmental sustainability is built into project design from the earliest stages, through the efficient use of resources, reduced emissions and waste, improved energy and water efficiency, and processing technologies chosen to balance production with protection of the environment and surrounding communities.

He explained that environmental commitment has become an influential factor in financing, market access, and building corporate reputation.

MINERALS SUPPORTING THE GLOBAL TRANSITION

Global demand for minerals continues to grow, according to Hossam El-Reedy, General Manager of Genesis Egyptian Mining Company, who explained that shifts in energy, industry, agriculture, and infrastructure are creating growing opportunities for companies able to deliver consistent-quality products, reliable logistics, and a clear commitment to specifications and delivery schedules.

NEW MARKETS FOR EGYPTIAN PRODUCTS

El-Reedy said Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Latin America represent promising markets, each differing in its needs and in the nature of the products required.

He added that Egypt holds a strategic advantage owing to its position between three continents, its network of ports, roads, and logistics zones, and its trade agreements — giving Egyptian products the ability to reach customers efficiently and at competitive cost.

He noted that data published by the International Energy Agency in July 2026 shows continued strong growth in demand for critical minerals, with total demand expected to nearly double by 2040 under the announced-policies scenario, lithium demand rising to more than three times current levels, and increases in nickel, graphite, and rare earth elements ranging between 50% and 90%.

He believes these trends confirm widening opportunities for countries that invest in exploration, processing, and manufacturing.

PHOSPHATE SERVES FOOD SECURITY

He added that the phosphate market is directly tied to food security and global agricultural activity, and that manufactured phosphate products carry greater value than raw ore, particularly given fertilizer markets’ sensitivity to disruptions in supply, energy, and shipping.

World Bank estimates for 2026 point to an upward trend in phosphate rock prices, alongside increases across a number of phosphate fertilizer products — reinforcing the importance of building flexible production and processing capacity able to respond to shifting market conditions.

EGYPT’S LOCATION MAKES THE DIFFERENCE

The General Manager affirmed that Genesis’s export strategy is built on understanding the specifications of each market, offering concentration grades, sizes, and packaging suited to customers, and using varied delivery terms that include sale from the production site or delivery through ports.

The company is also focused on building distribution centers and logistics alliances that support faster delivery and establish its standing as a reliable supplier of mining ores and products.

REFORMS OPENING THE DOOR TO INVESTMENT

He said recent reforms in Egypt’s mining sector mark an important step toward building a more attractive investment market, particularly with the conversion of the Mineral Resources Authority into an economic authority, and amendments to the executive regulations of the Mineral Wealth Law — supporting more flexible decision-making, accelerating cooperation with the private sector, and giving investors a clearer view of the project pathway.

OPEN BLOCKS ATTRACTING COMPANIES

He added that the open-block system, which began implementation in June 2026, is among the most notable regulatory developments: it allows companies to submit bids during the offering period, keeps a block open until the first bid arrives, and then opens a 30-day competitive window.

Opportunities on offer include gold and associated minerals, phosphate, talc, and kaolin, with adoption of the JORC Code or an equivalent internationally recognized standard for technical reports and resource and reserve estimates.

El-Reedy believes that the speed, clarity, and transparency of procedures strengthen companies’ ability to deploy new investment, accelerate exploration programs, and convert geological results into production projects.

He affirmed that investors assess ore quality, infrastructure, the regulatory framework, the speed of approvals, and data availability — and that progress on each of these fronts is reflected directly in Egypt’s competitiveness against other mining markets.

FIVE PILLARS OF GROWTH

He explained that Genesis will direct its investment over the coming period toward five pillars: exploration and development of resources and reserves; developing and operating mines and quarries; establishing processing and manufacturing facilities; applying technology, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence; and developing human capital and technical capability.

INVESTMENT WITH A LONG-TERM VISION

He added that the company invests with a long-term mindset, aiming to build operational and industrial assets that last for decades, while balancing economic return with the state’s rights and the requirements of the environment and local communities.

ACCURATE DATA FOR BETTER DECISIONS

He affirmed that major mining projects require investment patience, accurate data, appropriate financing, strong risk management, and partnerships that combine national and international expertise.

He pointed out that accredited laboratories, digital databases, and tracking and quality systems form essential infrastructure for any company seeking to compete globally, since clients and financiers require documented, verifiable results.

He added that data accuracy also supports mine design, reduces waste, guides the selection of appropriate processing technologies, and improves economic feasibility.

GENESIS’S MESSAGE TO INVESTORS

Egypt’s mining sector is undergoing a genuine transformation, backed by a clear determination to develop the investment environment and maximize the benefit drawn from the country’s mineral wealth. Alongside the long history that made Egypt one of the world’s earliest mining nations, the state is today building the sector’s future through updated legislation, institutional development, and the launch of a comprehensive airborne geophysical survey project that will provide an accurate database supporting investment decisions and reducing exploration risk.

In this evolving landscape, Genesis believes that investment success depends not only on the availability of resources, but on having a partner with the capability to turn potential into tangible results.

Through our operational expertise and our commitment to the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and sustainability, we are working to build long-term partnerships that create real value for investors and support Egypt’s vision of becoming a leading regional hub for the mining industry.

A TRUSTED INVESTMENT PARTNER

He added that the company aspires to serve as a trusted partner that brings together operational expertise, strong governance, and a long-term vision.
