Shalateen Announces a Promising Gold Discovery in Oshkafa

In a development that reflects the qualitative transformation underway in Egypt’s mining sector, Shalateen Mineral Resources Company has announced a promising gold discovery in the Oshkafa area, located southwest of Shalateen city, within the “Qas Onib–Soul Hamed” region. This discovery further cements Egypt’s growing status on the global gold map.
Shalateen Announces a Promising Gold
The announcement was made during a prominent technical session held as part of the Egypt Mining Forum 2025, under the theme: “Accelerating Commercial Exploration, Discovery, and Extraction,” and attended by leading experts, officials, and decision-makers from the mining industry.
Dr. Tarek Sedky, the company’s Deputy Site Manager in Shalateen, revealed details of this discovery, which he described as a qualitative leap in mineral wealth exploration efforts.
He noted that it aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the plans of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, led by Minister Karim Badawi, to maximize the economic return from the treasures of the Eastern Desert.
Sedky explained that geochemical and mineralogical analyses showed the presence of encouraging concentrations of gold and silver within five main quartz veins stretching in a northeast-southwest (NE–SW) direction, in addition to a number of mineralized metamorphic zones. This significantly increases the likelihood of moving forward to detailed exploration and, eventually, to commercial production in the near future.
Geology of the Region: Active Faults and Rich Rock Formations
The geological setting of Oshkafa is characterized by metavolcanic and metagabbro rocks, both renowned for their capacity to host gold-bearing quartz veins.
Sedky also pointed out that the area contains several active faults, the most prominent being the main fault running parallel to the quartz veins, which served as a natural channel concentrating mineralization over geological time.
Analytical Results Strengthen Project Viability
Laboratory analyses performed on samples extracted from the veins confirmed the presence of gold and silver in promising quantities. This bodes well for strong investment opportunities and opens the door for global companies to participate in exploration and development, making Oshkafa a likely candidate to become one of Egypt’s strategic gold regions in the coming years.
Shalateen: A National Pillar Building Egypt’s Golden Future
This discovery is a continuation of the pivotal role played by Shalateen Mineral Resources Company, led by Dr. Hani Mostafa, Chairman, and Dr. Abdel Meguid Mohamed, Vice Chairman and Managing Director, in rediscovering mineral wealth in remote areas that previously lay outside the scope of organized investment.
The company is steadily executing its methodical exploration strategy and working in concert with geological authorities to turn natural potential into productive resources that support the national economy.
A Wider Framework for Egypt’s Mining Strategy
This latest discovery is the result of Egypt’s strategic vision to develop its legislative framework for mining investment, and to encourage local and international private sector participation in exploring and exploiting mineral wealth.
Eastern Desert: A Promising Future Awaits Discovery
The discovery of gold in Oshkafa is not only a quantitative addition to Egypt’s gold reserves; it is also a strong signal that the Eastern Desert still holds untold secrets.
Egypt possesses the geological assets and human capabilities to become an emerging regional power in the mining industry.
With the ongoing efforts of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to support national companies, expand geophysical surveys, and promote transparency in tendering and contracting procedures, Egypt’s mining sector is truly poised to enter a new era—one in which Shalateen plays a central role as a key arm of the state in shaping the future.
