Poland’s KGHM Explores Mining Opportunities in Egypt

In a move that reflects Egypt’s rising profile on the global mining map, Eng. Karim Badawi, Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, met with representatives of the Polish mining giant KGHM, one of the world’s leading producers of copper and silver, on the sidelines of the fifth edition of the Future Minerals Forum held in Riyadh.

KGHM Eyes Mining Opportunities in Egypt

The meeting comes as part of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to open new horizons for international investment in the mining sector and to build strategic partnerships with major global companies engaged in the production of critical and strategic minerals.

During the meeting, the minister held discussions with Klaudia Kozłowska, Deputy Director of External Projects Development at KGHM’s International Assets Division.

Talks focused on opportunities for cooperation in copper production and associated minerals, as well as on transferring and localizing advanced mining technologies within the Egyptian market.

In this context, the Polish side highlighted KGHM’s extensive global footprint, which spans Europe as well as North and South America.

Beyond copper and silver, the company also produces gold, molybdenum, and nickel, positioning KGHM at the heart of global supply chains for strategic minerals that underpin today’s modern economy.

For his part, Minister Badawi stressed that Egypt has adopted a clear vision to build long-term partnerships with leading global mining companies based on technology transfer, deeper local manufacturing, and the localization of innovation.

This approach, he said, is designed to maximize value added from Egypt’s mineral wealth and to increase the sector’s contribution to national GDP.

He also noted that copper and its associated minerals are a top priority in Egypt’s investment strategy for the coming phase, given the rapidly growing global demand driven by the energy transition, electric vehicles, and advanced technological industries.

Meanwhile, Klaudia Kozłowska expressed KGHM’s strong interest in following the positive developments taking place in Egypt’s mining sector, both in terms of regulatory frameworks and the increasingly attractive investment environment.

She emphasized that the Egyptian market represents a genuine opportunity in line with the company’s strategy for expansion and sustainable growth.

She added that KGHM applies the highest standards of sustainability and modern environmental management across all its global operations, a philosophy that aligns closely with Egypt’s vision for building a responsible mining sector that supports economic development while safeguarding natural resources for future generations.
